Kids Wish Network congratulates Kelly Clarkson on last night’s nationally televised performance of the national anthem. Kelly’s beautiful voice kicked off Super Bowl XLVI and wowed both music and sports fans everywhere!  This is not much of a surprise, though, as Ms. Clarkson has been reeling in hit after hit ever since she won the inaugural season of American Idol. Now, she is so much more than a celebrity or a chart-topper… she is also kind and thoughtful toward her fans.

In 2007, Kelly Clarkson met with Florida teen Carissa, sharing with her a dream-come-true. Carissa was born with spina bifida, a birth defect that occurs when a portion of the spinal column fails to develop and close properly. This condition has left Carissa with severe mobility limitations. She must wear leg braces and she requires a wheelchair for distance. In addition, Carissa has suffered from hydrocephalus, a condition which causes fluid to build up around the brain

When she was given the opportunity for a very special wish to come true, she chose to meet Kelly Clarkson, her absolute favorite singer! She was able to watch Kelly perform a live concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall before heading back stage for a meet & greet. The two chatted together, posed for pictures, and exchanged gifts. Carissa summed up the experience by saying simply: “This was the best day of my life!”
